EARLY LIFE

Alexa Chalnick's musical journey began at a very young age. Born to a large family of musicians, Alexa grew up watching her family perform at gigs and family events. Her mother Sheri, who was a professional singer and piano teacher, gave Alexa lessons booked the family gigs to perform at Assisted Living Facilities. Here Alexa learned to fly by the seat of her pants and enjoy making the Residents smile.

In middle school Alexa joined drama club, chorus, and the school band. Over the summer she attended 'Company Call's Theatre For Young People' to do shows and be with her friends. In eighth grade Alexa had her first singing lesson with renouned teacher Regina McAllen. Regina became her mentor and would jumpstart the rest of Alexa's formal and professional training.

HIGH SCHOOL

Alexa auditioned for and was accepted into Howell High School's Fine Performing Arts Center as an acting major. There she studied acting from the ground up, and took classes in voice, dance, stage combat, directing, dramaturgy, musical theatre, and more. Alexa's involvement in Howell's record breaking choir also led to her participation in AllShore and AllState Chorus, as well as her selection to perform at Carnegie Hall for their annual holiday concert three years in a row. At Carnegie Hall Alexa sang with singers like Sierra Boggess, Zachary Levi, Melora Hardin, Neil Sedaka, Sarah McLachlan, and many more.

For all four years of high school, Alexa participated in the Main Stage productions as well as "Eve of Scenes," "Eve of Voice," and countless other opportunities the arts school offered. She was also able to study and subsequently go on to stage manage and direct performances. In addition to this, Alexa participated in many community theatre shows and showcases.

PRE COLLEGE PROGRAMS

While still in high school, Alexa auditioned for and subsequently attended many pre college programs. She attended Juilliard's Pre College Saturday School for Classical Voice, Rutger's High School Musical Theatre Academy, Papermill Playhouse's Summer Conservatory, and WestMinster Choir College's Solo Vocal Artist Summer Intensive. Each of these programs allowed Alexa to work with top notch educators, performers, and connect with amazing students whose passion for performing was just as great as hers.

OTHER AWARDS

In 2016, 2017, and 2018 Alexa won the Algonquin Arts' Rising Star award for Classical Musicians. As a result, she got to work with vocal professionals and perform in front of various schools. In 2017 Alexa recieved a Basie Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for her role as "Paulette" in Legally Blonde. At Alexa's senior showcase she was given an award for 'Outstanding Accomplishment in Voice.' Alexa was the first place scholarship winner of The Annual Monmouth Civic Choral Award, and also won Liberty Oak Chorus's Jean Revere Ferguson Scholarship to continue her education in music and the arts. Through her highschool, Alexa was awarded the Stephen Gosewich Memorial Scholarship that was to be awarded to a student pursuing a career in music education or the performing arts, as well as the Nacy Draper Memorial Scholarship for writing about what the term 'life is a gift' meant to her.

CURRENTLY

Alexa is currently attending Ithaca College as a BMO Major (Bachelor of Music with an Outside field in Theatre). Her plans are to learn more about music and theatre combined to be able to write and compose her own musicals.

In the world of social media, Alexa has made a name for herself on the popular app "TikTok" where she has gained over six hundred thousand followers by posting videos of her singing and playing the piano. She founded "Sing For Alexa Saturday," a free zoom musical theatre MasterClasses where singers chosen from tiktok get the opportunity to perform for Alexa as well as Broadway professionals. Through this masterclass Alexa has been able to connect with countless Broadway Stars, renowned songwriters, accompanists, and voice over actors! 

Alexa is currently writing her first musical in conjunction with the Averno Universe, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled!
